About Us

The Group was originally formed from an off-shoot of the West Country Group that had grown over the years to cover Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. Some members found it expensive and time consuming to get to all of the rallies. So a Member named Fred Saunders (with help from some associates) decided to form a group to operate within the Bristol area.

In May 1979, with the help of the Council of Management they became the Avon Group MCC, and in October 1979 they had their first AGM at Westerleigh Village Hall. Fred was appointed the group's first Chairman.  At that time the Group decided to allocate their rallies within a 50 mile radius of Westerleigh. From small beginnings of about 20 members the group has grown over the years to over 300 members. For more information on past activities of the group look at the History pages.

The Group has always extended a hand of friendship to all members of all groups throughout the Club and long may it continue.  The Avon Group has become well known for its Strawberry Rally and its Bristol Balloon Fiesta Rally.  View the Rallies page for our current programme of events.
